The basics

What exactly is the Spain digital nomad visa?

The Spain digital nomad visa — officially the International Telework Visa (visado de teletrabajador de carácter internacional) — lets non-EU/EEA citizens live in Spain while working remotely for employers or clients based outside the country.

It was created under Spain's Startup Law (Ley 28/2022) and launched in December 2022. It's renewable up to 5 years, and after 10 years of legal residence you may even qualify for Spanish citizenship.

Route 1

From your home country

FAQ

The Spain digital nomad visa, answered

What is the Spain digital nomad visa?

It's a residence permit — officially the International Telework Visa — that lets non-EU/EEA citizens live in Spain while working remotely for companies or clients based outside Spain. It was introduced under Spain's Startup Law in December 2022.

Who is eligible to apply?

Remote employees, freelancers and entrepreneurs who are non-EU/EEA citizens and earn their income from outside Spain. You'll usually need a degree or 3+ years of relevant experience and a clean criminal record. EU/EEA citizens don't need this visa.

How much income do I need in 2026?

For 2026 the main applicant must show about €2,849 per month (≈ €34,188 per year) — 200% of Spain's minimum wage. Add roughly 75% more for your first family member and 25% for each additional dependant.

How long does it take to get the visa?

Official processing is usually 10–45 days, but we recommend budgeting 2–4 months end to end, mainly due to apostille and document timelines. We prepare everything in advance to keep you fast.

Can I bring my family?

Yes. Your partner and children can be included and receive residency alongside you. We process the family applications together with yours.

How long is it valid and can I renew it?

Apply from abroad and you get a 1-year visa that converts to residency; apply from inside Spain and you get a 3-year permit up front. It's renewable up to 5 years, and after 10 years of legal residence you may qualify for Spanish citizenship.

What is the Beckham Law tax benefit?

Visa holders can opt into Spain's Beckham Law: a flat 24% tax on Spanish-source income up to €600,000 for up to 6 years, instead of the usual progressive rates. We'll tell you whether it fits your situation.

Can I apply from inside Spain?

Yes. If you're already in Spain — even as a tourist — you can apply within your first 90 days and receive a 3-year residence permit, which is the faster, stronger route.

Do I need a Spanish company to sponsor me?

No. You work for foreign employers or clients. You may do up to 20% of your work with Spanish companies, but the bulk must be for businesses outside Spain.

Can I live anywhere in Spain, not just Madrid?

Absolutely. Once approved you can live anywhere — Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Málaga, Seville or a smaller town. The visa is national.

What if my application is rejected?

We start with a thorough eligibility check, so you only apply when you're ready — that's why our approval rate is so high. If issues arise, our immigration lawyers advise on the best next step.

Do you handle the TIE and local paperwork?

Yes. Beyond the visa we guide your TIE card, padrón (town-hall registration) and renewals, so you stay legal and settled long after you arrive.
